Here at Elevated Health in Huntington Beach, we perform a number of in-office procedures–many of which fall under diagnostic testing. Diagnostic testing is particularly important because it shows us an individual’s weaknesses and strengths that will then determine a possible condition, disease, or illness they may have. After identifying the problem, we can then best treat a patient, avoiding further harm.

We encourage regular diagnostic tests and medical screenings to ensure you’re staying on top of your health and to avoid any sudden medical surprises. Urinalysis is a test performed to analyze urine and detect certain diseases (diseases such as diabetes, gout, or kidney disease).

• Urine Dips use a diagnostic tool called a dipstick to detect abnormalities in the urine. The dipstick can check how much acidity is in the urine to determine pathological changes.

• Urine Pregnancy Tests are done to determine whether or not a woman is pregnant. The diagnostic test measures a certain hormone that is only produced during pregnancy.

• EKGs are done to measure a heart’s electrical activity. This form of medical testing can measure different aspects from heartbeat rates to how its chambers are conducting electrical energy.

• Mononucleosis Tests are blood tests used to determine whether or not a person has mononucleosis (mono).

• Diagnostic Ultrasounds can be used to create an image of internal body structures like tendons, muscles, joints, and internal organs. It’s a good diagnostic test that provides useful information when diagnosing.

• X-Rays are another non-invasive form of imaging used to diagnose a person.

• Screening “Full Body” Ultrasounds create a live image from inside a patient’s body–again, another painless type of diagnostic testing without radiation.

• Strep Throat Testing can detect strep bacteria by identifying antigens in the throat.

• Spirometry is used to assess how well your lungs are functioning, by measuring how much air you inhale and exhale. Results will typically indicate whether or not a patient has asthma or other conditions that affect breathing.

• TB Skin Tests measure the body’s immune response to antigens. Results then determine whether or not a person has been exposed to tuberculosis bacteria.

• Skin Biopsies are diagnostic tests in which a skin lesion is removed and sent to a pathologist for further diagnosis.

While diagnostic testing is typically done to identify what’s causing certain symptoms, medical screenings are done at an earlier stage to detect possible disease or illness.
