Diabetes Awareness month

Diabetes Awareness Month. Are you at risk?

Diabetes is a serious health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. In the United States, more than 37 million adults have diabetes, and millions more are undiagnosed — and many of them don’t know it!

Diabetes often develops gradually. Before a full-blown diagnosis, many people go through a phase known as prediabetes

What is Prediabetes?

Prediabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. It’s a serious concern because it increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

The alarming fact is that many people with prediabetes are unaware of their condition. This is why early detection and proactive management are crucial.

How to Manage Your Risk of Diabetes

If diabetes runs in your family, you might be at higher risk. Here are a few simple steps to help you stay healthy:

  • Get Regular Health Check-ups: monitor your A1C, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
  • Prioritize a healthy lifestyle. Have a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management.
  • Take medications as prescribed and on time, even if you feel healthy
  • Take care of your mental health.
  • Work closely with your primary care provider. Schedule regular check-ups and communicate openly.
