One of the common questions we get here at Elevated Health is “do you offer affordable iron infusions?” Many other offices and infusion centers are charging thousands of dollars for this procedure. If you don’t have insurance or have an insurance deductible, you can find yourself paying too much money (on top of those high insurance premiums and copays!).
We are so proud to announce that we now offer iron infusions!
No need to wait months for this vital mineral found in every cell in your body! No need to spend thousands of dollars. No need to go to some random medical infusion center. Our doctors and nurses are equipped to help you on the spot. Call/text us at 714.916.5210 if you have any questions or would like to book your appointment today!
All You Need To Know About Iron Infusions
An Iron infusion would typically be prescribed by your primary care provider to treat iron deficiency anemia. An iron infusion is a procedure in which iron is delivered to your body intravenously, meaning into a vein through a needle.
Who needs iron:
People who might have lower supplies of iron in their body can include:
-
Those who have experienced significant blood loss from cancers, ulcers, or have heavy periods
-
Those who eat a diet low in iron
How long does the procedure take:
An iron infusion can take up to 3 or 4 hours. However, depending on the level of treatment it may take longer. The slow infusion rate helps prevent complications. Here at Elevated Health, our iron infusions are with Infed and take approximately 1 hour.
How to prepare
Your physician will give you specific instructions for preparing for your first iron infusion treatment. Some basics are:
-
Eat your breakfast and lunch, as there is no need to fast for an iron infusion
-
Take your regular medications
-
Be prepared to have small IV drip put in your arm or hand
-
Sometimes your physician may prescribe you medications to take one hour before the infusion
Side effects and complications
After you get an infusion, you may return to your normal activities straight away. You may have some side effects right after the procedure. Most are mild and include:
-
Temporary changes in the way you taste food and drink
-
Headaches
-
Nausea and vomiting
-
Muscle and joint pain
-
Itching and rash
-
Burning sensation or swelling at the site of the injection
If you experience chest pains, dizziness, mouth swelling or difficulty breathing in the hours to days after an iron infusion, you should seek immediate medical attention.
Remember to always consult your primary care provider!
