12 MONTHS OF GIVING: A Warrior’s Oasis.

Each month, Elevated Health chooses a nonprofit to support. This month we donated to A Warrior’s Oasis.  We are pleased to help such a great organization! A Warrior’s Oasis was founded by retired Navy Master Chief David Dickey and Renne Marcoux. Their mission is to help military service members and veterans who cope with post-traumatic stress (PTS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

I had a heartwarming, hour-long conversation with co-founder, Renne Marcoux. I could hear her passion and yearning to bring those in need to A Warrior’s Oasis in Quemado, New Mexico. “I met David through the Naval Sea Cadets as an instructor and eventually the commanding officer of El Toro Battalion in Irvine, California… Like David, I have friends who are service members and veterans who suffer from PTS. Watching service families and veterans fall into the downward spiral from PTS, with few answers, resources, or hope is very difficult. These people gave up a portion of their lives to serve our nation. I feel the burden that something more should be done to help.” Marcoux continues, “Little did we know that when we met as volunteers with the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, that along with becoming great friends, we discovered that we both had a vision for helping veterans and service members who are suffering from post-traumatic stress. And so our journey began.”

In January 2017, they began the groundwork and by August of that year, A Warrior’s Oasis was born. Their home: a 480-acre property in New Mexico known as Silver Sky Ranch. A Warrior’s Oasis provides a peaceful environment where service members (Active, Reserve, Retired, and Veterans) and their families who struggle with PTS and TBI can decompress, rejuvenate, and recuperate without the stress and distractions of everyday life.
